Brief portrait
The picturesque Renaissance castle was built in 1580 by Georg Albrecht von Kromsdorf. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the city of Weimar. The adjoining castle garden, laid out by Johann Theodor Mortaigne in 1660, is unique in its design north of the Alps. The wall of the square park contains niches with 62 sandstone busts, which were made from the 16th to the 19th century. In addition to emperors, kings and princes of modern times such as Charles V and Louis XIV, they also depict figures from antiquity.
After the castle was destroyed and looted by the French in 1806 following the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt, it was not until 1830 that Grand Duke Karl Friedrich of Saxe-Weimar took possession of the castle. His wife, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, spent many happy hours here. The promenade path between Tiefurt and Kromsdorf castles is thanks to her efforts. The castle is now owned by the municipality and has developed into an attractive meeting and cultural center for the Weimar region in recent years thanks to the commitment of the association.
IPH was commissioned to plan the building services in the immediately adjacent castle chapel. The client's brief was to replace the existing heating system with panel radiators with a more comfortable heating system that would preserve the historical character of the building. This was achieved with underfloor heating, which is supplied via the castle's existing system.
