The CHP unit and the solar system are primarily used to provide heat to drive the absorption chiller and its cooling system. At times when heat is left over, it is used to heat the building (offices and some sales areas). The gas condensing boiler is only used to cover peak loads and is in operation, e.g. when the CHP unit is being serviced.
A 10 m³ hot water storage tank is used for better storage and more even heat distribution. An inverter-controlled refrigeration system with a cooling capacity of approx. 100 kW is used to cool the storage areas to 2°C. An NH3 absorption chiller with a cooling capacity of approx. 50 kW is used to cool the sales area and is supported by a 6 m³ ice storage tank, which is charged when the sales area is not in use. An open recooling tower with an output of 170 kW is used to recool the cooling water for the absorber.
The CHP unit is heat-led and generates 46 kW of electricity. The electricity generated is primarily consumed by the plant itself and the rest is fed into the grid. The CO2 efficiency is very good thanks to this combination of the above-mentioned units. Compared to conventional refrigeration with compression chillers and heat generation via a gas condensing boiler, a CO2 reduction of approx. 72 t/a is possible.
