Brief portrait

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has provided funding for applications for EneffStadt projects as part of the German government's 5th Energy Research Program.
The aim is to work on “pilot projects” in which, in addition to the energy optimization of individual buildings, holistic considerations of urban settlement areas to increase energy efficiency are to be presented and evaluated.
At the same time, the idea of integral planning is to be realized with the implementation of the energy concepts and their metrological monitoring. The aim is to reduce the use of primary energy in the entire district by at least 30 percent - through the consistent application of new technologies and intelligent planning processes. The transfer of research and development results creates targeted know-how for the urban planning tasks of the future.

The area is an ensemble of buildings consisting of 10 residential buildings (8 historical-landmark-listed Wilhelminian-style villas, 2 new buildings), a school site (2 schools, 1 sports hall), 2 kindergartens, a church and a planned competence and advice center with a boarding school building. The site is located southwest of the city center of Weimar and represents a typical inner city area with a mixed structure.

Implementation. Energy-efficient refurbishment of the listed buildings will be achieved, among other things, through the exemplary use of various interior insulation systems. The supply concept will be based on geothermal energy and CHP as well as a local heating network and the use of effective control and regulation technology, resulting in an energy-efficient and low-energy supply for the area.
Objective/results. The aim of this model project is to develop guidelines and evaluation criteria for energy-efficient refurbishment and energy-efficient supply and to test their transferability to other complex inner-city mixed structures.
